Grave of the Fireflies
During the final, brutal months of World War II, 14-year-old Seita and his little sister, Setsuko, are cast adrift by a firebombing that destroys their home and shatters their family. With only each other to rely on, they must try to survive in a countryside ravaged by war and a society that has turned its back on them.
They find a temporary haven in an abandoned bomb shelter, where the light of fireflies becomes a fleeting symbol of hope and the beauty that still exists in their broken world. But as their resources dwindle, their innocent struggle for survival becomes a devastating testament to the fragility of life.
From Studio Ghibli, this is not a story of heroes or villains, but a profoundly beautiful and unflinching look at the human cost of conflict—a quiet, heartbreaking elegy for the innocent voices silenced by the roar of war.
